Once a year, around the Patatfees weekend, the streets of Napier are populated by an array
of strange characters and bizarre creatures. The Patatfees Scarecrow competition has been running for several
years now and visitors can vote for their favourite Scarecrow via SMS.
Creativity is the name of the game and anything goes! From six foot pigs to traffic police, the divergent thinking of this small community is quite evident!
Everyone and anyone in Napier are encouraged to make a scarecrow for the duration of the festival and
display it on the "Spot the Scarecrow Discovery Trail" or
in front of their homes or businesses in Napier.
The Scarecrows on the Trail compete in several categories, for great prize money and local fame.
Young, old, clever and artistically-challenged all participate and the result is having many scarecrows
that have to be seen to be believed.
